This sign was acquired from
the original Hodge's Chile Parlor in Downtown St. Louis. The sign
is in fairly good shape for being so old, but needs a little work.
First the sign is
dismantled and all of the old hardware is removed so the porcelain can be cleaned
and polished. Then new hardware is installed.
The inside of the sign is
repainted and new transformers are added. All of the remaining
original neon is cleaned and any new neon that is needed is carefully
measured for.
After the neon is cleaned,
it can be repainted with Block-Out to cover the areas where no light should
show through. But first the neon is taped off to prevent any run-over
where light should be seen.
All of the neon
is then secured to the sign through the glass tube supports that were
previously attached to the sign.
Finally the sign is
finished and it can be hung with care in the Antique Warehouse. |
