A recent road trip to Tennessee found Greg Rhomberg at the birthplace of Rock N' Roll, Sun Studio in Memphis. The legendary Sun Studio was the very first place Elvis ever recorded. A tour of the studio will have you standing in the very same spot as Elvis when he recorded his fist song. The tour guide will tell you the inside stories of BB King, Howlin' Wolf, and Ike Turner before Elvis...and Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis & Roy Orbison who were all drawn to the new Sun Sound. You'll see priceless 50's memorabilia that records the unforgettable people that collided in Blues & Country music to explode in the "Big Bang" that came to be called Rock N' Roll. The Studio is open for guided tours everyday from 10am until 6pm. It's easy to find at 706 Union Avenue, just a couple of minutes from Beal Street (map below). About 15 minutes from Graceland. And just four hours south of St. Louis. |

Stop by. Get a shake at the soda fountain. You can even record a song! And feel the same magic that Elvis & Johnny did when they walked in 50 years ago. The tour is only $10, and children under 12 are always free. And there is plenty of free parking behind the studio. Check out their website at www.sunstudio.com or give them a call at 1-800-441-6249. |
