Gateway Fire Historical SocietyOpen House

The Antique Warehouse had the pleasure of hosting an Open House for the Gateway Fire Historical Society on Saturday, September 8, 2007. Greg R. Rhomberg, curator of the Antique Warehouse, also invited active duty and retired fire fighters from the St. Louis area to show his appreciation for their service.  Everyone was fascinated with the thousands of antiques and collectibles on display and more than 200 guests enjoyed a variety of games, rides, food, and fun throughout the day. Among the guests seen enjoying themselves were Congressman Russ Carnahan, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, Mehlville Fire Protection District Fire Chief James Silvernail, and Lemay Fire Protection District Fire Chief (and former Chief of the  St. Louis Fire Department) Neil J. Svetanics, Saint Louis Fire Department Captain Steven Kotraba, Kirkwood Fire Department Chief Larry Bierman, and many firefighters both active and retired as well as friends and Club members.

Outside the Warehouse was a display of in service and antique fire apparatus for everyone to enjoy. Antique trucks displayed included a 1942 Diamond T, 1939 Chevy Squirrel Tail, 1961 Model B Mack, General Monarch Pumper and two Chevrolets a 1925 and 1933. In service equipment included fire trucks from St. Louis City, Mehlville, Kirkwood and Lemay. See the images below to view all of the fire trucks participating in this event.

Guests were treated to Warehouse Favorites: Italian Beef Sandwiches, Chicago style Vienna Beef Hot Dogs, Lemp Beer, Fitz’s Root Beer, Gus’ Pretzels, Dad’s Cookies, Ronnie’s Rocky Mountain Ice Cream Cones, old time candy store and much, much more.

Our young guests rode the beautifully restored Allan Herschell carousel, and everyone had the opportunity to play classic pinballs and stop by the 1950’s style photo booth for a mug shot.
